Hooper Stops 31 Against Lakers

Canton, NY – Senior Kelson Hooper made 31 saves, including a first period penalty shot, but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Oswego Lakers in a SUNYAC match on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After scoreless first period, Brandon Cohen opened the scoring for the Lakers at 2:52 of the second period, tucking a rebound past Hooper.  The goal was assisted by Jonathan Balah and Justin Ryan.
  • Adam Grenier doubled Oswego's lead at the 10:42 mark of the third, collecting a faceoff win and snapping a sharp angled shot into the net.
  • Matt McQuade closed out the scoring at 13:10 of the third, wristing a shot top shelf off a turnover to give the Lakers the 3-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Lakers outshot the Roos 34-19.  Four Roos registered three shots each including senior Reilly McKinnon, junior Niko Schoner and sophomores Logan Kelly and Nolan Zotter.
  • Canton had a slight edge at the faceoff dot winning 28 of 55 draws.  Freshman Spencer Sasenbury led the way with 10 wins.
  • The Roos were a perfect 3/3 on the penalty kill and were 0/5 on the power play.
  • This was the first time this season Canton was shut out after scoring multiple goals in each of their first six games of the season.

The Roos will take on #1 ranked Hobart College in another SUNYAC game Saturday, November 22nd at 4 p.m.
