Alexander and Schoner Lead Roos Past Cougars

Canton, NY – Two days after knocking off a top ten program, the SUNY Canton men's hockey team kept the momentum rolling behind strong offensive performances from freshman Colton Alexander and junior Niko Schoner to defeat the Misericordia Cougars 5-1 on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got on the board first at 9:56 with the skater advantage.  Schoner found a soft spot in the Cougar's zone, snapping a wrister top shelf to put Canton up 1-0.
  • Senior Evan Pringle kept the power play hot, scoring Canton's second power play goal at the 15:48 mark of the first.  Pringle buried a Spencer Sasenbury pass from behind the net to give the Roos the 2-0 lead.
  • Early in the second period, Alexander scored the team's third-straight man advantage goal, tipping in a cross-crease pass from Schoner to go ahead 3-0.
  • Alexander scored his second of the afternoon at 6:21 of the second, chipping in a Schoner pass over the sprawling body of Cougar goaltender Antione Robidioux giving Canton the 4-0 advantage.
  • Less than a minute later junior Adrian Franco potted his first of the season depositing a beautiful cross ice pass from senior Michael Palandra to put Canton up 5-0.
  • Cameron Perry chipped in a third period goal at the 7:05 mark for the Cougars spoiling the shutout effort by senior goaltender Kelson Hooper.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Schoner led the Roos with four points on a goal and three assists.  Alexander added two goals and an assist.  Pringle's goal was his second of the season.
  • Hooper finished with 17 saves, including his 1000th save with his last of the game.
  • Antoine Robidioux made 17 saves in just over 27 minutes of action for the Cougars.  Ayden Pierce made 20 saves in relief without giving up a goal.
  • Canton's power play was on fire, scoring on three of four opportunities.  The Cougars finished the game 0/3.
  • The Roos dominated the faceoff dot winning 40 of 61 draws.
