Canton, NY – Jordyn Mughal and Niko Schoner each scored goals, but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team fell 5-2 to the No. 9/8 Hamilton Continentals in the concluding game of Hockey Reunion Weekend in Canton.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The opening period was penalty-plagued early with both teams going on the power play. Hamilton went on two power-plays in the first ten minutes but went 0-for-2. The Roos also had a man advantage but to no avail.  
• With five minutes left in the period, Trystan Mughal found Niko Schoner wide open at the right faceoff dot and Schoner placed a beautiful shot into top right of the net for game's first goal.
• With two minutes remaining in the first, SUNY Canton had a faceoff in Hamilton's zone. Jordyn Mughal won the draw and played it back to Scott Cremen on the point. Cremen flung a shot towards the net and as Continentals net minder Tyler Bloomfield slid to his right, Mughal tipped it into the right side of the net and SUNY Canton was up 2-0.
• The Roos took their 2-0 lead into the dressing room on the ninth-ranked team with both squads recording 11 shots on net through 20 minutes.
• Out of the break, the Continentals had significant offensive zone time and plenty of dangerous opportunities. Eventually Hamilton broke through with 10:28 left in the period and then did not let up. The Continentals scored three more times in period to double up the Roos 4-2 after 40 minutes elapsed.
• Schoner, Colton Alexander, and Jackson Drysdale each registered shots in the second period, but SUNY Canton was out shot 10-3 in the second and faced an uphill battle going into the final stanza.
• Around 13 minutes into the final period, the Roos drew a penalty and on the resulting power play, got a couple of high danger chances by Colton Alexander and Brayden Fryfogle but to no avail.  
• With three minutes left in the game, Fryfogle skated with the puck up through the neutral zone and then sauced a pass to Spencer Sasenbury who was cutting in through the slot. The Roos leading goal scorer was all alone, but Bloomfield snatched Sasenbury's shot to preserve the two-goal lead.
• The Continentals scored on the power-play late in the period and the buzzer sounded with Hamilton ahead 5-2 for their second win of the season.   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• With his goal today, Schoner has a six-game point-streak to start the season and a team-high nine points on the year. Cremen, Evan Pringle, and Trystan Mughal each logged one assist.
• Luke Tchor and Justin Biraben each had a goal plus a helper for Hamilton. Devon de Vries had three assists in the game.
• Bloomfield for the Continentals made 18 saves on 20 shots. Nate Hopkins for the Roos turned aside 23.
• Hamilton enjoyed a 28-20 shots on goal advantage. The Roos were 0-for-4 on the man advantage while the Continentals scored once on their five chances.
