THE BASICS
- Result: SUNY Canton 2, Morrisville 1
- Location: Terry Martin Ice Arena – Canton, NY
- Records: SUNY Canton (5-0-0, 1-0-0 SUNYAC) | Morrisville (0-4-0, 0-1-0 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- At 13:08, the Mustangs struck first, and the Roos found themselves facing a deficit for the first time this season. Nora Diana Egri was open in the low slot for a dangerous one timer. Roos netminder Alyssa Thompson made a save, but the resulting scramble went the way of Morrisville and Avery Holland scored.
- SUNY Canton drew a penalty with 3:03 left in the first period for the game's first power play. The Roos had several shots, and Morrisville was only able to clear the zone once but SUNY Canton could not break through for a goal.
- The first period ended with the Roos trailing 1-0 but leading shots on goal 10-3. Nine players from SUNY Canton had shots with Danika LaLonde leading the team with two.
- After a second period that began with plenty of rush opportunities for the Roos and with the Mustangs back on their heels the whole game, SUNY Canton finally broke through with 4:57 left in the stanza.
- With the Roos set up nicely in Morrisville's end Lilah Cudney took a rip at a puck from the right point. The shot was blocked with several Mustangs cluttered around the net and both Bailey Cote and Taylor Stoll took shots, but it was Kyra O'Keefe who took a backhander and with netminder Sydney Canham way outside the crease, the shot snuck through for the game-tying goal.
- SUNY Canton continued to hold a large margin in shots on goal after 40 minutes, up 22-7 in the 1-1 game.
- Morrisville was pinned back in their zone again early into the third period when Isabella Paswaters played a puck up to the point from the corner. Asha Hanson sent one towards the net where Chaminox Jackson tipped it in high right and the Roos were suddenly leading 2-1.
- SUNY Canton's defense was on point the whole game, preventing the Mustangs from getting chances, but Morrisville got some decent zone time late in the game when they sent Canham to the bench for the extra skater. The Mustangs flung a few pucks to the net, but things never got too scary and Townsley only needed to make one save as the final buzzer sounded with the Roos ending the game ahead by a goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jackson and O'Keefe were the two goalscorers for SUNY Canton while Hanson, Stoll, Cote, and Paswaters all had assists to put six players into the points column for the Roos.
- Avery Holland scored the lone goal for the Mustangs and Nora Diana Egri and Madison Lawrence earned the helpers on the tally.
- Townsley finished her day with an even .900 save percentage after stopping nine of ten for the Roos. On the other side, Canham for the Mustangs made 31 saves on 33 SUNY Canton shots.
- In a fairly clean game, both teams failed to score on their power play chances with SUNY Canton going 0-for-2 and Morrisville unable to cash in on their only chance on the man-advantage.
