- Location: Alumni Gymnasium – Potsdam, NY
- Records: SUNY Canton (0-2) | Clarkson (2-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams struggled to score early as there were no points three minutes into the game, but then both squads got the offense rolling.
- At the 13:31 mark, the game was tied at 11 with five different players for SUNY Canton finding the scoring column early. However, the Golden Knights got hot from the arc and drained four three pointers in a 2:17 span to pull ahead 23-11 with 10:23 left in the half.
- The scoring picked up for the Roos late in the first 20 minutes and Clarkson could not keep up. SUNY Canton went on a 15-7 run to pull within just six with the score at 41-35. The Roos were 6-for-8 from the field and Gbekou led the way with six points in this span.
- The half ended with the Golden Knights leading 44-35 at the break. Gbekou, despite playing just seven minutes, half a team-high nine points at halftime.
- The two teams matched each other for the first five minutes of the second half, then SUNY Canton scored seven straight capped a fastbreak layup scored by Gbekou to make it 56-53 with 12:43 to go in the game. This marked the first time the Roos were within three points since it was 14-11.
- A Tanner Sullivan three-pointer with 10:08 left to play gave the hosting Knights just a two-point advantage at 65-63 with 10 minutes to play, however, the offense went on a dry spell after this and the Roos had just two points, a layup by Bryon Streb, in the next five minutes.
- Clarkson restored their lead back up to double-digits to 75-65 with 5:33 left to play. The fouls were really piling up for the Roos as well as Clarkson was in the double bonus at this point.
- SUNY Canton had a few points late in final minutes including three's from Malaki Smith and Kolton Castrello but could not get the necessary stops needed to erase the deficit, ultimately falling 91-77 in Potsdam.
