HOW IT HAPPENED
- After three close ones yesterday, the Roos played another evenly matched game in the first set of Saturday's contest with neither team gaining more than a four-point lead early on.
- Late in the set, the Hawks pulled ahead 20-18 after three straight points, forcing a timeout by Roos Head Coach Cooper Colesante.
- The break in the action worked wonders for the Roos with SUNY Canton scoring four straight out of the timeout off one kill each by Coulter and Isabella Cruz followed by two attack errors on the other side.
- However, New Paltz then called a timeout themselves and proceeded to score five of the final six points of the set to win 25-23.
- In the second set, the Hawks were doubling the Roos early on 12-6 and later led 17-11.
- The Roos though did not hang their heads and scored eight of the next 10 points highlighted by two kills from Coulter while Brooke Hite and McKenna Pelech each contributed one to tie it up at 19.
- The Hawks went up 22-19, but SUNY Canton recovered by tying the set at 23, then Kiley Zicari's service ace put the Roos up 24-23 for their first lead since 4-3.
- The visitors won a critical second set after knotting it at 24, then scored the final two points to win 26-24 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
- The third and final set did not go the Roos way after New Paltz started ahead 5-0.
- The Roos battled back to make it 12-11, but things quickly went south from there. The Hawks scored eight straight points to go up 20-11 which was by far the largest lead for either side in the match.
- New Paltz did not allow the Roos to get any mojo going and took the final set by double digits 25-15.
