Potsdam, NY – Emerson Coulter and
Isabella Cruz had 11 and 10 kills respectively, but the SUNY Potsdam Bears beat SUNY Canton volleyball team in three sets Friday night at Maxcy Hall.
Potsdam's late surge in the first set gave the Bears a 25-13 win to start the match. The next two sets were both tied at 22, but the hosts scored the final three points in both games to win the match 3-0 after a pair of 25-22 victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first set off kills by Cruz and Coulter.
- The Bears scored five straight to take a 6-3 which they never relinquished. A service ace by Abby Raven made it 12-10 in favor of the hosting Bears, but Potsdam went on to score 11 of the next 12 points to lead 23-11 and later win 25-13.
- After a 5-4 lead from the Bears to begin set two, SUNY Canton pulled ahead 10-7 after an 6-2 run. Coulter went on a tear in this stretch with a service ace and four kills.
- Coulter added two more kills a bit later to make the lead 18-14 in favor of the Roos, however, Potsdam responded earning the next six points to take their first lead of the set since it was 2-1.
- The Roos fought back using a couple kills from Cruz and one from Brooke Hite to tie the game at 22, but the Bears scored three in a row after this to take set two by a score of 25-22.
- The final set saw the two teams match each other on several occasions with the score at 9-9, 14-14, and 20-20 with neither team going up by more than three points.
- SUNY Canton fell behind 22-20, but Potsdam committed an attacking error, then Rylan Walker had a big ace in crunch time to tie the set at 22. Despite the effort from the Roos though, the Bears finished off the match with the final three points to win 25-22 for the second straight set.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Coulter was tops on the team with 11 kills and the most efficient hitter with a .207 attacking percentage (11-5-29). Cruz was also in double figures with 10 kills and a team-high 11 digs.
- Lauren Norman took on all the setting duties in the game and finished with 24 assists and four digs. Raven had two blocks and Walker pitched in with two service aces and five digs.
- For the Bears, Emily Prest led the way with 10 kills, two aces, and six digs. Rachel Mador had 17 digs while Noelle Redeye topped the squad with five blocks.
- The teams were fairly even statistically with Potsdam having 34 kills to the Roos 30 and the Bears having slightly more digs (41-39). The difference maker was the blocking which Potsdam won 8-3, and hitting percentage where the Bears were at .194 (34-16-93) and the Roos at .069 (30-23-102).

The Roos will take a trip east to Plattsburgh tomorrow, October 11 to play the Cardinals at 1 p.m.
