SEASON PREVIEW: 2025-26 Men’s Hockey

Canton, NY – The 2025-26 SUNY Canton men's hockey team features 28 student-athletes as the Roos are scheduled for a 25 game schedule in their second season in the SUNYAC under 10th year Head Coach Alex Boak

SUNY Canton plays a pair of home exhibitions against Potsdam (10/24) and Plattsburgh (10/25) this weekend. The Roos open the regular season with non-league home games against Trine and Misericordia on October 31st and November 2nd, respectively.

SUNY Canton has been picked to finish seventh in their second year in the SUNYAC in a vote of the league's 10 head coaches. Hobart and Skidmore join the SUNYAC as associate members in men's hockey for the first time this season. The Roos received 32 points just behind sixth place Buffalo State (41). Canton was picked to finish ahead of Fredonia (8th – 25), Potsdam (9th – 16) and Morrisville (10th – 8). Three-time defending national champion Hobart was picked to win the league with 80 points. Oswego (71), Plattsburgh (69), Cortland (55) and Skidmore (53) rounded out the top five.  
   
After four non-conference games to start the season, the Roos open SUNYAC play on November 14th at home against Potsdam as part of Hockey Reunion Weekend. The team will square off with Hamilton the following night (11/15). To view the team's full schedule release, click HERE.

SUNY Canton's 2025-26 roster couples 24 returners with four newcomers. Seniors Reilly McKinnon and Jack Seamans will serve as captains, while senior Evan Pringle and sophomores Samuel Moshurchak and Brayden Fryfogle will serve as alternate captains.  
 


The Roos return four of their top five scorers from last season including five double digit point scorers. Niko Schoner paced Canton in points (29), goals (13) and assists (16) during the 2024-25 season. Scott Cremen was the top defensemen in scoring with 18 points on four goals and 18 assists. Nolan Zotter (10G-6A-16P), Logan Kelly (10G-4A-14P) and Fryfogle (4G-7A-11P) also return for the Roos.  

Canton welcomes back all three of its goaltenders in Nate Hopkins, Trey Miller and Kelson Hooper. Hopkins led the way with seven wins and two shutouts last season posting a .910 save % and 3.03 goals against average. Miller and Hooper had one win each with Hooper posting marks of .896 and 3.82 with Miller registering marks of .881 and 3.34.
