Buffalo, NY – Junior Abby Raven had two seven kills and two blocks, but the SUNY Canton volleyball team lost in three sets to the Buffalo State Bengals to round out their two-game weekend in southwestern New York Saturday night.

The Roos dropped the first set 25-18, the second 25-12, and the final 25-17.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Play started evenly with neither team up by more than three points early and the first set knotted up at 12.
  • However, the Bengals scored four straight and six of the next seven points as the home team had a 18-13 advantage, the largest for either team in the set.
  • Right after this though, SUNY Canton took the momentum with a 4-0 run with Isabella Cruz, Nadia Frigon, and McKenna Pelech each getting a kill.
  • The Roos could not close out the match though, losing the next six points and dropping the first set 25-18.
  • The second set was a challenge for SUNY Canton after they conceded eight of the first nine points with Buffalo State at least doubling the Roos throughout most of the set.
  • Abby Raven had a stretch of three straight kills early on, but other than that, the Roos only scored consecutive points one other time in the set and lost the 25-12.
  • The third set began a bit shaky for the Roos as well with 10-5 and 19-10 Buffalo State leads.
  • However, SUNY Canton was right back in it after four errors by the home side and a kill from Raven sparked a 5-1 run that put the Roos back in the game at 20-15.
  • Lauren Norman connected with Raven twice later in the set, but the Bengals bested the Roos 25-17 in the third stanza for the sweep.
