Five Roos Reach Double Figures in Third Straight SUNYAC Win

Canton, NY – Five different Roos scored in double figures as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team earned its third straight SUNYAC win with a 75-61 victory against visiting Fredonia on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team led by more than four points in the opening half as the Roos took a slim 34-33 lead into intermission.
  • Malaki Smith led the Roos with nine first-half points, while Keenan Roberts Jr. also had nine points for Fredonia.
  • The Devils opened the second half on a 11-2 run to open an eight point lead less than four minutes in.
  • Trailing 50-45 with 11:40 to play the Roos went on a 26-4 run to open a commanding 17 point lead (71-54) with 2:20 to play after a Nate Cohen layup.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Cohen led the Roos with 16 points and added nine rebounds shooting 6-for-8 from the field and 2-for-3 from three. Smith tallied 15 points, while Bryon Streb added 13. Chris Nastasi chipped in 12 points and four rebounds, while Eli Larson posted his fifth double-double of the season with 10 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Kevin Goode Jr. registered seven points and a game-high five assists.
  • Roberts Jr. paced Fredonia with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Martin Garza added 10 points. Brandon Kulakowski added nine points and nine rebounds.   
  • The Roos shot 30% from three, while Fredonia only hit on 12% of their three-point attempts. Canton shot 22-for-28 from the free throw line and the Devils were 11-for-20.
  • Fredonia had the edge in points in the paint (38-26) and rebounds (43-38).

The Roos return to SUNYAC action on Saturday when they host Buffalo State at 4 p.m.
