Oloriz Scores Early as Roos Face #9 Cortland

Cortland, NY – Freshman Taryn Oloriz scored an early first period goal to put the SUNY Canton women's hockey team ahead 1-0 over host SUNY Cortland, but the Red Dragon's scored five unanswered goals to win the game 5-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oloriz put the Roos up 1-0 early, gaining the zone and skating down the right side before beating Red Dragon Molly Goergen to the far side of the net.  Sophomore Anna Pavlasova was credited with the assist.
  • Natalie O'Brien evened the score at 7:07 of the first period, snapping a shot in the slot that sophomore goalie Molly Lenihan got a piece of but the momentum of the puck carried it across the line.
  • The Red Dragons took their first lead of the game just 20 seconds later when Fanny Aneborn banged home a rebound off a Katie Mahoney shot.  Taryn Raisanen earned the secondary assist.
  • In the second period, with the Roos on the power play, Cortland's Josselyn Drayson broke out of the defensive zone with the puck and skated deep into Canton territory and beat Lenihan blocker-high from just inside the circle.  The goal was scored at 15:00 of the period.
  • On the same penalty kill, Aneborn took a bank-pass off the boards from McKenzie Brown, gained the zone and scored glove-side high to make the score 4-1 in favor of the hosts.
  • The Roos pulled Lenihan for the extra skater at 15:57 but were unable to score.  Drew Kopek was able to take advantage scoring an empty-net goal at the 19:08 mark, making the final score 5-1 for Cortland.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Oloriz first period goal was here second of the season.
  • Both teams were 0/2 on the power play with the Red Dragons scoring two short handed goals.
  • Cortland dominated at the faceoff dot, winning 37 of 57.  Senior Desiree Snook led the Roos with seven wins.
  • Sophomore Jordan Caroccio recorded three blocked shots to lead the Roos.
  • Lenihan made 32 saves for Canton while her counterpart Goergen had 17 stops for Cortland.
