Goode Jr. Shines vs. New Paltz at Home

Canton, NY – Kevin Goode Jr. shined with a stellar performance in a game that saw four Roos reach double digits and had multiple lead changes in a weekday SUNYAC battle. The Roos eventually fell in the back-and-forth affair to the Hawks 76-66 on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Early in the SUNYAC battle, Malaki Smith scored six points in a row with back-to-back three-pointers making the score 12-8 in favor of New Paltz at the 14:19 mark in the first half.
  • Locked in a close scoring battle, Kevin Goode Jr. drained a three-pointer from long range to lessen the gap to two points, making it 31-29 with 1:45 left in the opening half.
  • Smith led Canton in the first half with 10 points, nine of them coming from long range. Goode Jr. also stood out thus far with nine points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. The Hawks took a 38-32 lead into halftime.
  • Both squads came out aggressive early in the second half. Nate Cohen started off the scoring for the Roos firing from deep and making a three-pointer 35 seconds into the second half.
  • For the first time since early in the game, the Roos took the lead over the Hawks at the 13:56 mark in the second half when Goode Jr. made a layup bringing the score to 45-44 in favor of Canton.
  • Two minutes later, Bryon Streb once again gave the Roos the lead (49-48) off of a short-range jumper,.
  • With under three minutes left to play and down by two, Eli Larson came up clutch draining back-to-back free throws once again making it an even ballgame (55-55).
  • New Paltz finished the game on an 11-1 run, finalizing the win over Canton at (76-66).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Goode Jr. led the Roos with 21 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal, while three others followed up with double digits in Smith (12), Streb (12) and Larson (11).
  • New Paltz had three players reach double digits in scoring in AJ Knight (14), Ethan St. Lucia (13) and Trevor Amalfitano (12).
  • Canton held the lead in free throw percentages with 75%, defensive rebounds (27-25) and points in the paint (36-30). The teams were dead even in field goal % with 42%, and rebounds (33-33). New Paltz held a slight edge in blocks (4-3), assists (8-7), points off turnovers (16-11) and three-point percentage with 33% to Canton's 31%.
