Kylah Small scored her first career goal for the SUNY Canton women's hockey team and sophomore
Molly Lenihan made 33 saves, but the Roos dropped a 2-1 decision to #12/13 Utica University in a Saturday matinee.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- After an even and scoreless first period, Jordan Hancock put the Pioneers on top 1-0, tapping home a rebound past Lenihan. The goal was on the power play and was assisted by Carly Stefanini.
- Ally Nolan put Utica up 2-0 just over two minutes later deflecting the puck off her skate and into the net. Assisting on the play were Jordan Kowalski and Madison Novotny.
- The Roos battled back in the final period creating several scoring opportunities and Small sniped a wrist shot past Pioneer goaltender Angela Hawthorne to get Canton back within a goal. Sophomore Abby Tate earned the assist.
- The Roos were awarded a power play with five minutes remaining in the game and had a four good looks, including one shot off the pipe, but Hawthorne was up to the task and the game ended 2-1 in favor of the Pioneers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Roos were outshot 35-28 for the game but outshot the Pioneers 14-9 in the third period. Sophomore Riley Andzel led the Roos with four shots.
- Utica had an edge at the faceoff dot 30-25. Freshman Taryn Oloriz was an impressive 9/10 on draws.
- Lenihan finished with 33 saves and Hawthorne made 27 for the Pioneers.

The Roos travel for a pair of SUNYAC conference games next weekend at SUNY Cortland on Friday, January 17
th at 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 18
th at 3:00 p.m.
