Wunder & Caron Tally Seven Points Each in Road Win at Salem State

Salem, MA – Lindsey Wunder and Maddy Caron posted seven points each and Aayliah White scored three goals to lead the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team to an 18-9 road win at Salem State on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got on the board first just over a minute in on a Scarlet Ditoro goal. The Vikings netted the next three goals to open a two goal advantage five minutes in.
  • Canton responded with scores from White and Caron to knot things up at three midway through the quarter.
  • After Salem State regained a brief lead, the Roos responded with tallies from Lindsey Wunder and Hannah Reed to take a 5-4 lead after the opening quarter.
  • The hosts scored the first goal of the second quarter, but it was all Canton from there as they scored five straight goals to take a 10-5 lead into intermission. White scored twice in the spurt, while Caron, Wunder and Sydney Dunn netted one each.
  • Canton continued to control play in the third quarter outscoring the hosts 5-2. Wunder found the back of the net three times with Caroline Nappi chipping in the other two scores as Canton led 15-7 after 45 minutes of play.
  • The Roos outscored the Vikings 3-2 in the fourth quarter for the 18-9 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Wunder led all players with five goals to go with two assists and six draw controls. Caron tallied four goals, three assists, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls. White posted three goals, three ground balls and six draw controls.
  • Nappi chipped in two goals and one assist, while Morgan Montgomery scored once and dished out two assists. Dunn stuffed the stat sheet with a goal, an assist, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Ali Servati caused a game-high four turnovers.
  • Olivia Scott made nine saves in the win, while Nora Bradley turned aside 15 shots in defeat.
  • The Roos controlled shots on goal (33-18) and ground balls (24-17). Canton was 7-for-9 on clears, while Salem State was 9-for-17.  
     
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Wednesday when they host Keuka College at 4 p.m.
