HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cortland had a great early scoring chance four minutes in when Hooper made a terrific glove save followed by another stop with traffic out in front.
- With just over three minutes left in the first period a Red Dragon shot hit the left post and went across the edge of the goal line but stayed out. Cortland held a 14-9 shots advantage in the opening period as the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes.
- Canton got on the board first 1:36 into the second period as Jackson Drysdale and the Roos skated into their offensive zone 3-on-1. Drysdale played a pass from the left circle to Niko Schoner at the crease. Schoner's initial shot was saved by Ronan Mobley, but Drysdale buried the rebound at the far post.
- Hooper had another strong period stopping all 19 shots he faced as the Roos skated to second intermission with a 1-0 lead.
- Cortland leveled the score at one apiece at 5:00 of the third period as the Roos failed to clear the puck from their defensive zone. Dino Mannetta picked the puck up just inside the blue line and skated down the left side ripping a shot over the blocker of Hooper.
- The Red Dragons scored their second goal of the third period at 15:13. Domenic Settimo won a faceoff at the right circle back to Andrew Clouden who skated the puck behind the Canton net. He left the puck for Mannetta at the left point as he faked a shot and wristed a shot top shelf for the 2-1 advantage.
- With less than four minutes to play Drysdale had a great chance for his second goal of the night but his shot on a breakaway was turned aside by Mobley.
- Canton pulled Hooper for the extra attacker with 2:20 left and moments later Cortland was whistled for a tripping penalty with 1:41 remaining. The Roos called timeout with Hooper still out to set up their power play skating 6-on-4.
- Canton had one good shot attempt but with 1:14 to play they were whistled for a cross checking penalty. Colby Seitz scored an empty-netter for Cortland with 17 seconds remaining for the 3-1 final.
