Kyra O'Keefe's first period goal gave the SUNY Canton women's hockey team a 1-0 lead, but the Roos dropped their SUNYAC opener against Oswego State 3-1 on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- O'Keefe got the Roos on the board first, tipping a Danika Lalonde shot past Laker netminder Lexi Levy. Senior Desiree Snook earned the secondary assist on the goal which was scored at 3:48 of the first.
- Oswego tied the game at 1-1 at 17:52 as Simone Bednarik took advantage of a scramble in front of Roos goaltender Molly Lenihan, burying the loose puck into the net. Mack Hull and Helen Vandamme earned the assists.
- The Lakers took a 2-1 lead as Shaye Jasiel took a desperation snapshot that was deflected by a Roo defender in front of Lenihan as time was expiring in the first period. The goal was assisted by Ashlyn McGrath.
- Oswego added an insurance goal at 13:29 of the third period, giving the Lakers a 3-1 lead that would hold up as the final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- O'Keefe led the Roos with eight shots on goal, while sophomore Riley Andzel had four.
- Senior Kamryn Barnes recorded three blocks on the evening and the team had a total of 11.
- Canton was 0/1 on the power play and the Lakers were 1/2.
- Oswego had an edge at the faceoff dot 27-17.
- Lenihan made 32 saves for the Roos, her counterpart Lexi Levy made 24.
