Larson Double-Double Leads Four in Double Figures as Men’s Basketball Opens Season vs. Brockport

Cleveland, OH – Eli Larson recorded a double-double to lead four Roos in double figures, but SUNY Canton dropped their season opener 98-70 to SUNY Brockport in the opening game of the Bill Sudeck Tournament at Case Western Reserve University on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos jumped out to an early 6-0 lead two minutes in behind four points from Larson. Brockport responded with a 10-0 run, but Canton took a 24-23 lead with 9:07 left in the first half after a Larson layup.
  • The Golden Eagles closed the first half strong taking a 47-34 lead into intermission.
  • Canton scored the first four points out of intermission to trim the deficit to single digits (47-38) after a Jevonte Williams layup.
  • Brockport seized control of the game with a 14-2 run to open a 21 point lead less than six minutes into the second stanza.
  • The Roos were unable to get closer than 15 the rest of the way as the Eagles earned the 98-70 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Williams led the Roos with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Larson posted a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Goode Jr. chipped in 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Bryson Streb also scored in double figures with 12 points.
  • Zachary Rice paced Brockport with 21 points, nine rebounds and four steals, while Alex Tavarez (16), Mekhi Beckett (11), Colby Jordan (10) and Milo Scheve (10) all scored in double figures.
  • Canton held advantages in rebounds (45-39) and second chance points (14-8), while Brockport held the upper hand in bench points (43-10), points off turnovers (24-7) and fast break points (30-12).
  • Brockport shot 48% from the field and 33% from three-point range, while Canton had marks of 41% and 18%, respectively.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos square off with Penn State Altoona in the consolation contest of the Bill Sudeck Tournament on Saturday at 12 p.m. The Lions lost 99-72 to Case Western Reserve in Friday's second game.
