Oloriz, Andzel Key Women’s Hockey Weekend Sweep vs. Bengals

Canton, NY – Taryn Oloriz scored her first career goal, the eventual game-winner, and Riley Andzel added a pair of assists as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team earned a 3-2 win against visiting Buffalo State in SUNYAC action on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got on the board first at 13:43 of the opening period when Andzel skated down the right side playing the puck across the slot as Ashten Morris tipped the puck on to Danika Lalonde as she ripped a shot top shelf past Bengals net minder Jessica Auge.
  • Buffalo State evened the score with just two seconds left in the second period with the skater advantage. Emma Ramseier won a faceoff in the Bengals defensive end as Carys Ursell played the puck up the near boards to Sydney Rabecki in on the breakaway. She roofed a shot into the top right corner past the glove side of Abby Seaman.
  • Canton had a 13-8 shots advantage in the opening period as the teams skated to first intermission tied at one.
  • The Roos regained the lead at 14:38 of the middle period. Chamonix Jackson played the puck from the near boards to Kamryn Barnes at the left point. Her shot was redirected out in front as Desiree Snook skated through the low slot at the last second deflecting the puck high past Auge.
  • Less than a minute later Canton struck again, this time 22 seconds into a power play opportunity. Isabella Paswaters played the puck from the left point to Andzel at the right point. Her shot was redirected out in front by Oloriz for her first career goal at 15:33.  
  • The Roos doubled up the Bengals 10-5 in shots in the second period leading 3-1 after 40 minutes.
  • The Bengals got within one at 18:34 of the third period when Vanessa Willick and Ursell skated 2-on-1 into the zone. Willick played the puck to Ursell to her right who one-timed a shot into the left corner past the blocker of Seaman.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Roos held a slim 27-25 shots advantage and had the upper hand in faceoffs, 34-29.
  • Canton went a perfect 1-for-1 on the power play, while Buffalo State was 1-for-5.
  • Seaman made 23 saves in the win, while Auge turned aside 24 shots in the loss.
  • Snook, Kyra O'Keefe and Joey Schemenauer led the Roos with four shots on goal apiece.

The Roos are back in action for a non-conference game next Saturday (12/7) when they host Hamilton College at 3 p.m.
