THE BASICS
  • Result: Tufts 4, SUNY Canton 2
  • Location: Terry Martin Arena – Canton, NY
  • Records: Tufts (3-2-1) | SUNY Canton (3-6-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tufts jumped out to a quick lead less than two minutes in. Sylas Oberting's initial shot from the left point was blocked by Carson Cox. The puck came out to Drew Pitts at the right circle as he quickly found Max Resnick in the slot as he buried a one-timer over the blocker of Trey Miller.
  • Canton knotted the game at one apiece at 15:17 of the opening period. Jake Howard and Colton Sipperley worked the puck free at the far boards in their defensive zone to Franco. He skated through the neutral zone and rifled a shot from the top of the left circle top shelf over the blocker of Gustave Bylin.
  • The Jumbos regained the one-goal advantage at 18:01 of the first when the Canton defense tried to clear the zone. Jon Horn took a one-timer slapshot from the right circle that was turned aside by Miller, but Trace Norwell put home the rebound at the far post for his second goal of the season.
  • Tufts held a 14-6 shots advantage taking a 2-1 lead to first intermission.
  • Shots on goal were even at nine apiece in the second period as neither team was able to find the back of the net as the Jumbos penalty kill unit killed off a pair of Canton power play opportunities.
  • The Roos tied the game at two apiece at 10:13 of the third period with the skater advantage. Sipperley moved the puck from the right circle to Scott Cremen at the right point. He found Schoner above the left circle and skated between the circles firing a wrister top shelf past the glove of Bylin.
  • The Jumbos responded less than a minute later with a power play tally of their own as Resnick netted his second of the game off passes from Cole Dubicki and Tyler Sedlak.
  • With the puck in the Roos offensive zone Canton called timeout with 2:55 to play pulling Miller for an extra skater. Brennan Horn scored an empty-netter off a pass from Jon Horn with 1:49 remaining to seal the Jumbos win.
