  • Result: SUNY Canton 5, SUNY Potsdam 1
  • Location: Terry Martin Arena – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (4-6-0) | SUNY Potsdam (4-6-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got on the board first at 5:14 of the opening period with the skater advantage. Niko Schoner played the puck up to Scott Cremen at the left point as he swung a pass to Colton Sipperley to his right above the right circle. Sipperley hit Brendan Morrow with a pass just outside the left crease. Morrow's initial shot was turned aside by Bears goaltender Lenny Perno but Nolan Zotter jammed at the loose puck at the far post to get it past Perno for the 1-0 lead.
  • Canton doubled their lead at 10:52 when Jordyn Mughal hit Bradyen Fryfogle with an outlet pass right at the offensive blue line. He hit Adrian Franco with a centering pass as he tipped the puck as it just trickled past Perno into the net.
  • The Roos continued to extend their lead at 15:46 with the teams skating 4-on-4. Samuel Moshurchak won the puck at the near boards as Morrow took the puck below the left circle finding Schoner in the slot. He wristed a shot through traffic past a screened Perno just inside the right post for the 3-0 lead.
  • Schoner struck again three minutes later on a beautiful individual effort deking a defenseman and then deking Perno flipping a backhander in for the 4-0 advantage.
  • Canton doubled up the Bears 14-7 in shots in the opening period taking a commanding 4-0 lead to first intermission.
  • Schoner completed the natural hat trick scoring the third straight goal of the contest at 14:25 of the middle period. Morrow won a faceoff at the left circle of the offensive zone right back to Schoner who ripped a quick one-timer top shelf past Luciano Chinappi.
  • Potsdam got on the board with six seconds left in the second as Drew Rose brought the puck in on a rush leaving it for Payton Felix to his right. Felix's initial shot was saved by Nate Hopkins but the rebound went right to Garrett McCabe in the slot as he finished his second goal of the season. The Bears controlled shots on goal 18-10 in the second period, but Canton took a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
  • Potsdam held a slim 9-7 shots advantage in the third period but neither team found the back of the net leading to the convincing Canton win.
