Men’s Hockey Closes out Hockey Reunion Weekend Against Plattsburgh, Terry Martin Arena Unveiled

Canton, NY – Nolan Zotter scored his sixth goal in six games to start the season, but visiting Plattsburgh State, ranked in the top 12 nationally in both the USCHO and D III Hockey News polls, earned a 7-1 win against the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Saturday to close out Hockey Reunion Weekend.  

SUNY Canton dedicated the naming of its arena as Terry Martin Arena in an unveiling ceremony at 5:30 p.m. between its women's and men's games on Saturday. Martin served as the college's head men's ice hockey coach from 1974 to 1999 and led SUNY Canton's teams to 12 national championship titles with a career record of 527 wins, 211 losses and 19 ties.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead less than four minutes in behind goals from Shane Bondy and Tyler Ramm. Brannon Butler tacked on the team's third goal of the opening period at 14:15 as the visitors led 3-0 after one.
  • Ramm added his second of the night at 4:28 of the middle period and Jack Ring made it 5-0 at 13:15 as Plattsburgh led 5-0 after 40 minutes of play.
  • Canton got on the board when Zotter scored his sixth goal in as many games off passes from Niko Schoner and Samuel Moshurchak just 38 seconds into the third period.
  • Aaron Catron and Jake Lanyi tacked on two more third period goals for the Cardinals leading to the 7-1 final.
   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Ramm led Plattsburgh with a pair of goals, while Ring, Butler and Lanyi all had a goal and two assists each.
  • Plattsburgh had the advantage in shots (40-25) and faceoffs (44-23).
  • Trey Miller made 12 saves allowing five goals over the first 33:15, while Nate Hopkins turned aside 21 shots allowing two scores in the final 26:45.
  • Jacob Hearne made 24 stops allowing just the one goal in the win for Plattsburgh.
  • The Cardinals went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Canton was 0-for-5.
