Larson Shines for Roos in Home Opener Against Clarkson

Canton, NY –Eli Larson had a head turning double-double performance in the Roos home opener in front of a large crowd, but it was not enough to overtake the Clarkson Golden Knights in a North Country rivalry game as SUNY Canton fell 53-44 on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Clarkson 53, SUNY Canton 44
  • Location: Stan Cohen Court – Canton, NY
  • Records: Clarkson (1-2) | SUNY Canton (0-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Clarkson jumped out to an early 16-2 lead early in the game, but the always resilient Roos responded with an 18-6 run to close the gap to two points (22-20) at the 2:08 mark of the first half after a Larson jumper.
  • The Golden Knights pulled ahead a bit more after a three-pointer and layup by Jack Dalgety to make the score 27-20 at intermission.
  • Larson made it a 36-33 game midway through the second half after a smooth sky hook, followed up by an offensive rebound and putback on the next offensive possession for the Roos.
  • After Clarkson increased the gap to as much 10 points, Canton responded with a Bryon Streb jumper. Larson used a block defensively and a quick pass to Kevin Goode Jr. who finished with a layup to make it 48-42 with 1:32 left in regulation.
  • That was as close as the Roos would get as Clarkson hit their free throws down the stretch for the win.
