Pringle Nets 5th of the Season, Hooper Makes 41 Saves Against #4 Geneseo

Canton, NY – Sophomore Evan Pringle scored a second period goal and classmate Kelson Hooper made 41 saves, but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to #4 SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights struck first when Peter Morgan collected a puck in the slot and lifted the puck over Hooper's blocker to make the score 1-0.  Dakota Zarrudny and Tyson Gilmour assisted on the goal which was scored at 3:40 of the first period.
  • Pringle knotted the game at 1-1 at 4:28 of the second, banging home a rebound past Geneseo goaltender Adam Harris.  Senior Nic Herringer and junior Colton Sipperley earned assists on the play.
  • Geneseo regained the lead at 7:28 of the third when Morgan gained the puck in the slot for the second time in the game, this time lifting it above Hooper's glove, putting the Knights up 2-1.
  • Dakota Zarudny put Geneseo up 3-1, scoring on a wrap-around attempt at 13:10 of the third.
  • Alex Wilkins scored an empty net goal for the Knights at 19:01 of the third to close of the scoring.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Pringle's goal was his fifth of the season, ranking him second on the team, five behind team-leader freshman Niko Schoner.
  • The Roos were 0/4 on the powerplay and 1/1 on the penalty kill.
  • Geneseo had a significant advantage at the faceoff dot 37-25.
  • Hooper finished the game with 41 saves, Harris made 20.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos host Fredonia this weekend for a pair of games on Friday, January 12th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 13th at 4:00 p.m.  The team will be celebrating it's alumni and former head coach Terry Martin.
