Morrow Scores Twice, Pringle Nets Game-Winner in 3-2 Win at Wilkes

Wilkes-Barre, PA – Junior assistant captain Brendan Morrow scored twice, Evan Pringle netted the third period game-winner, and Trey  Miller made 41 saves as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team earned a 3-2 road win at Wilkes University on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Billy Berry got the hosts on the board first at 10:26 of the opening period when he scored off passes from Joe Johnson and Christopher Paige.
  • Canton knotted the game at one apiece when Morrow scored his first of the night with just 24 seconds to play in the opening period. Scott Cremen took a shot from the point that went just wide of net as Colton Sipperley tipped the puck to Morrow who finished his fifth of the season into the back of the net.
  • Wilkes held a 14-8 advantage in shots in the opening 20 minutes as the teams skated to first intermission tied at one.
  • The Roos took their first lead of the night at 10:58 of the middle period on Morrow's second goal of the night and sixth of the season. Nic Herringer deflected the puck loose for a breakout as Morrow played a give-and-go with Lucas Roy. Morrow buried a one-timer from the slot for his second of the night.
  • The Colonels tied things up once again at the 15:59 mark of the period off the stick of Carter Jordan. Lorenzo Marcolin and Cole Jungwirth assisted the score. Wilkes owned a 17-8 shots on goal edge in the second period, but 16 second period saves from Trey Miller kept things tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes of action.
  • Pringle put home his sixth of the season at 12:15 of the third period which proved to be the ultimate game-winner. Adrian Franco was credited with the assist, the second of his rookie season.
  • Wilkes called timeout with 1:51 remaining pulling their goaltender for the extra attack. The Colonels were only able to get one shot on net with just over a minute remaining but Miller made the stop.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Wilkes held a 43-20 advantage in shots, while Canton had the upper hand in face offs 36-32.
  • The Roos were 1-for-2 on the power play and killed all four of their penalties.
  • Miller made 41 saves recording a .953 save % as he improved to 4-2-0 on the season. Michael Paterson-Jones made 17 saves in defeat for the hosts.
  • Morrow and Pringle are tied for second on the team with 15 points as the duo both has six goals and nine assists this season.

These two teams will have a rematch on Friday at 7 p.m. in Canton.
