Roos Honor Former Coach Martin & Alums, Drop Game to Fredonia

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's hockey team honored former head coach Terry Martin and a number of alums during their game against Fredonia State on Saturday afternoon.  Fredonia would end up winning the game 4-0 over the Roos.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Ryan Bailey put the Blue Devils up 1-0 on a nifty give-and-go with Johnny Malandruccolo at 5:46 of the first period.
  • Jake Murphy scored Fredonia's second goal of the afternoon, taking a seam pass from Adam Hawkins and bursting down the right side of the ice before cutting back to the middle and beating sophomore goaltender Kelson Hooper.
  • The Blue Devil's extended their lead to 3-0 midway through the second, when Antione St. Onge scored on a wrap around attempt.  His goal was assisted by Malandruccolo and Bailey.
  • Murphy scored an empty netter late in the third with Hooper on the bench.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Roos were 0/1 on the power play and 2/2 on the penalty kill.
  • Canton had a 34-31 edge at the faceoff dot.  Junior Brendan Morrow led the Roos with 15 wins.
  • Hooper made 39 saves for the Roos while his counterpart Charles-Anthony Barb made 25.
Between the first and second period, the team honored alums who returned home for the Hockey Alumni Weekend festivities.
