Keuka Park, NY – Cadin Taggart led the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team with 12 kills and 10 digs, but the Roos dropped their season opener 3-1 against Hilbert College in the Keuka College Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- In the first set, both teams battled back and forth, with the Roos taking a 16-11 lead on a block by Taggart and junior Sarah Balcom. The Hawks scored six straight before a Taggart kill ended the run. Both teams traded points before a Sammie Frank kill and Taggart block ended the set with the Roos winning 27-25.
- Hilbert controlled much of the second set jumping out to a 16-8 lead. The Roos closed the gap to 16-11 but it was all Hawks after that, as they took the set 25-12.
- Hilbert again took an early lead in the third set, but the Roos battled to stay within striking distance, capped by an Alexas Marshall kill to bring the score to 15-13. The Hawks scored nine of the next 13 points to finish the set 25-17.
- In the fourth and final set, Hilbert jumped ahead 11-6. A five-point SUNY Canton run knotted the score at 11 and included a Taggart ace and two Marshall kills. The Hawks then took a commanding 23-15 lead before the Roos demonstrated their resilience, scoring eight straight points, capped on a kill by freshman Hannah Lombardi.  After a back-and-forth battle, the Hawks scored the last two points to win the set 28-26 and the match 3-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Marshall recorded 10 kills and junior Sarah Towles led the team with 19 digs, while sophomore Kiley Zicari finished the night with 17.
- Frank was credited with three aces, 11 digs and 34 assists.
- The Roos led in kills (45-40), digs (73-70) and assists (41-35). Hilbert edged SUNY Canton in blocks (5-4).
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos will take on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and host Keuka College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, on the second day of the tournament on Saturday.
