Roos Drop Season Opener Against Bears

Potsdam, NY – SUNY Potsdam scored a goal midway through each half to earn a 2-0 victory over the SUNY Canton men's soccer team on Friday night.  The game was the season opener for both clubs.

THE BASICS
  • Result:  SUNY Potsdam 2, SUNY Canton 0

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Potsdam's Peyton Snell opened the scoring at 12:20 of the first half with an assist going to Justin Mossey.
  • Sophomore Michael Gavette created a scoring chance for the Roos just over a minute later, however his shot was saved by the Bears Lucas Schiel.
  • Mossey put the Bears up 2-0 at 21:49 of the second half.  The goal was assisted by Sebastian Sosa.
  • SUNY Canton had two opportunities to get on the board on back-to-back shots by sophomore Chris Escobar and senior Brennan Harmer but Shiel was up to the task.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • SUNY Canton led Potsdam with four shots on goal compared to the Bears' three.
  • Sophomore transfer Hayden Brimelow secured the other shot on goal for the Roos.
  • Senior Owen Kwong made one save for the Canton while Schiel finished with four.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos return home to face the Raptors of Bard College, Sunday September 3rd at 11 a.m.
