Waterville, ME – The SUNY Canton baseball team has earned the four seed and will travel to Husson University for the double elimination NAC baseball tournament beginning next Sunday, May 7th.
SUNY Cobleskill will be the overall no. 1 seed, while no. 2 seed Husson University earned the right to host, when the 2023 North Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament begins play next weekend at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex in Bangor, Maine.
As the top team in the NAC East Division, Husson (14-2 NAC East, 19-16 overall) will serve as the host for the four-team, double-elimination tournament. Joining Husson out of the East Division will be Thomas College (13-3 NAC East, 18-15 overall).
SUNY Cobleskill (13-2 NAC West, 20-13 overall) had a strong season in the NAC West Division during the 2023 regular season, and will be joined in the NAC tournament by SUNY Canton (8-7 NAC West, 11-21 overall). The Roos were the only team to hand the Fighting Tigers a loss in NAC West play as Canton beat them twice in five tries.
Seeding and selection for the NAC Baseball Tournament were first done based on divisional records only.
The four qualifying tournament teams were then re-seeded no. 1 through no. 4 based on a composite of each team's overall winning percentage plus its strength of schedule.
Top-seeded SUNY Cobleskill will face no. 4 seed SUNY Canton in the tournament opener on Sunday, May 7, followed by no. 2 seed Husson battling no. 3 seed Thomas in game two. Game times for all tournament games will be determined on Monday, May 1, and posted on the NAC website.
Defending champion Husson will be seeking its fourth-straight NAC crown, after winning the championship in 2022, 2021, and 2019 (NAC East). The Eagles have won six NAC championships in program history.
