Canton, NY – Maddy Caron and
Samantha Dayter registered three goals each but a strong second half carried visiting Utica to a 13-9 win in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Utica scored the first three goals of the game off the sticks of three different players over the first five minutes of the game.
- The Roos responded with three consecutive tallies, the first two from Caron, and the third on a free-position shot from Casey Pelton to draw even with 3:13 left in the opening quarter.
- The Pioneers responded with back-to-back scores from Samantha DeCondo 24 seconds apart to take a 5-3 lead after 15 minutes of play.
- Caron netted her third of the game off a feed from Dayter to get within one early in the second quarter. DeCondo scored her fourth of the game, but Canton responded with back-to-back goals from Dayter and Morgan Montgomery to knot things at six apiece headed to intermission.
- Utica doubled up the Roos 4-2 in the third quarter with Montgomery and Dayter scoring for Canton. The visitors held a 10-8 lead headed to the final quarter.
- The Pioneers scored the opening two goals of the fourth to extend their lead to four. Canton would trim the deficit to three after a Dayter goal with 8:20 remaining but were unable to get closer than three.

INSIDE THE NUMBERSÂ
- Dayter led the Roos with three goals and three assists, while Caron scored three times and picked up a team-high seven draw controls. With her six points on Wednesday Dayter broke the Roos career points record and now has 251 career points surpassing Tressa Goolden '15's mark of 248 points. Dayter also recently broke and currently owns the career assists (109) and draw controls (201) program marks. Montgomery scored twice and Pelton had the other Canton score. Maddy Thompson led the team defensively with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- DeCondo led all players with eight points and seven goals, while Grace Stuhlman picked up a game-high 12 draw controls.
- The Roos held the upper hand in shots on goal (22-19) and ground balls (13-12), while Utica controlled draw controls (15-11). Canton was 4-for-6 on free-position shots, while Utica was 4-for-12.
- Breese Burlingame had a strong outing in the win for Utica making 13 saves. Olivia Scott stopped six shots in defeat for the Roos.
