Goodnough and Todd Lead Men’s Lacrosse Past Thomas on Senior Day

Canton, NY – Caeden Goodnough and Hayden Todd led the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team to a 16-9 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win against visiting Thomas College on Senior Day on Saturday.

The Roos honored four graduating players of the program including Nick Snyder, Noel Abreu, Kyle Fingar and Noah Robinson (not pictured). Thank you for your dedication to the program on and off the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos outscored Thomas 3-1 in the opening quarter behind a pair of goals from Goodnough and one from Tanner Amell.
  • Canton extended the lead to 4-1 early in the second quarter on a man-up goal from Alec Gorman and extended the lead to 7-2 after three straight scores from Gorman, Alex Jacobs and Logan McCargar. The hosts led 7-3 at intermission.
  • The Roos dominated play holding a 6-1 advantage over the Terriers on the scoreboard in the third quarter. Canton led 13-4 after 45 minutes of action.
  • Thomas bounced back with five goals in the fourth quarter as the Roos earned a convincing 16-9 win on Senior Day.
 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Goodnough led all players in points (8), goals (4) and assists (4). Gorman finished with three goals and an assist, while Amell had two goals and two assists. Jacobs scored twice and added an assist, while McCargar and Carter Pooler supplied two goals apiece.
  • Devin Guerriero won a team-high 13 face offs and picked up a team-best eight ground balls. Jacobs and Rilee St. Croix added seven ground balls each with St. Croix forcing a pair of turnovers.
  • William Heywood led the Terriers with two goals and an assist, while Daniel MacWhinnie and Connor Hamilton had a goal and two assists each.
  • Todd was impressive in goal stopping 17 of the 21 shots he faced in three quarters of action for an .810 save %. Sam Servati stopped four shots in the fourth quarter.
  • Patrick Buxton made eight saves allowing seven goals in the first half in the loss. Daniel Guarino made six saves in the second half
  • Shots on goal (30-30) and face offs (14-14) were even, while the Roos controlled ground balls (57-47) and extra-man opportunities (4-for-11 v. 1-for-7).

The Roos are back in action on Wednesday when they host SUNY Cobleskill at 6:30 p.m.
