Guerriero, Mesler, Jacobs & Amell Lead Offense in 21-6 Win v. MCLA

Canton, NY – Devin Guerriero had a strong showing on face offs, while Austin Mesler, Tanner Amell and Alex Jacobs led a balanced offense in a 21-6 SUNY Canton win against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos offense exploded out of the gates with a pair of Jacobs' goals just 38 seconds into the game. That would be foreshadowing for the Canton offense as the hosts led 9-1 after the first quarter as the Roos saw seven different goal scorers in the opening 15 minutes.
  • Canton doubled up the Trailblazers 4-2 in the second quarter to lead 13-3 at intermission.
  • The hosts continued to play a strong two-way game doubling up MCLA 4-2 in the third quarter and outscoring them 4-1 in the fourth for the 21-6 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Mesler led all players with in points (10), goals (4) and assists (6). Jacobs tied a game-high with four goals and added an assist and Amell recorded career-highs of three goals and two assists. Alec Gorman, Caeden Goodnough and Carter Pooler all chipped in two goals each, while Logan McCargar had a goal and assist and Kyle Fingar and Charles Grandaw each scored.
  • Devin Guerriero was dominant at the X going 17-for-28 on face offs and he added a game-high seven ground balls. The face off wins and ground balls were both season-highs for the rookie. Holden Hewlitt and Grandaw caused three turnovers each for the Roos.
  • Nathan Haley led MCLA with three goals.  
  • Hayden Todd made nine saves allowing just five goals over the first three quarters for his second win of the season. Sam Servati stopped one shot and allowed one goal over the final 15 minutes.
  • John Hankel made 22 saves in the loss for the Trailblazers.
  • The Roos controlled shots on goal (43-16), ground balls (52-32), and face offs (18-12).

The Roos are back in action on Wednesday when they visit SUNY Poly in a NAC game at 4 p.m.
