HOW IT HAPPENED
- Husson opened up a 4-2 lead after the opening quarter. After the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead Caeden Goodnough and Logan McCargar posted back-to-back scores as the snow and mixed precipitation really started to come down.
- Play was dead even with three goals for each team in the second quarter. Alec Gorman, Goodnough and Alex Jacobs had the scores for the Roos as Husson took a 7-5 lead into intermission.
- Both teams each struck for three goals once again in the third quarter. Husson led 9-5 midway through the frame, but McCargar bookended a pair of goals around an Austin Mesler tally as Canton got within 9-8 with 3:07 left in the third. The Eagles added a goal with 2:30 left in the quarter taking a 10-8 advantage to the fourth quarter.
- The visitors would net the first goal of the fourth quarter, but the Roos hung tough as Mesler got things within two at 10:32. With just over four minutes to play Jacobs trimmed the deficit to one on his second goal of the game and 15th of the season.
- Trailing by one with less than a minute remaining Todd picked up a Husson turnover and made a beautiful clear of the ball as Kyle Fingar caged his first goal of the day and fourth of the season with just 21 seconds remaining to knot things up at 11.
- Husson won the ensuing draw but Todd turned aside a shot with 14 seconds remaining and once again did an excellent job in the transition game as the Roos had a last second chance to win it in regulation before turning it over.
- Both teams had great chances in the first overtime. With the Roos Mesler taken down on a play with the ball still in possession of the hosts Canton Head Coach Pat Harrington called a heads-up time out with 1:20 left in the first OT. Canton eventually turned the ball over and Todd made one of his three saves in the first OT with 23 seconds left to force a second OT.
- The Eagles won the draw to open the second overtime and that paid off just 38 seconds later when Matt Boynton scored the sudden death game-winner for the visitors.
Â
