Dayter Scores Six, Scott Stops Career-High 18 Shots v. Hawks

Canton, NY – Samantha Dayter scored six goals and Olivia Scott stopped a career-high 18 shots as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team dropped a non-league contest to Hartwick in the final minutes, 13-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Kristen Vaccarelli opened the scoring at 13:25 in the first quarter putting the Hawks up 1-0.  
  • Junior Morgan Montgomery evened the score at 10:48 in the first before another Hartwick goal pushed the score to 2-1. 
  • The Roos would score three straight thanks to Dayter, Montgomery and sophomore Maddy Caron. The Hawks added two more to tie the game 4-4 after the opening period. 
  • Both teams would score four goals in the second and one in the third to push the score to 9-9.  
  • The Roos were outscored 4-3 in the fourth with junior Lindsey Wunder chipping in one goal and Dayter providing two.  
  • The game came down to the final seconds as Dayter and Caron both had game-tying shot attempts in the final 20 seconds, but Hartwick held on for the win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Dayter led all players with six goals, while Caron added two goals and two assists. Montgomery scored twice and Wunder tallied a goal and assist. Caroline Nappi added the Roos other score. Maddy Thompson picked up a team-best five draws.
  • Vaccarelli led the Hawks with four goals and an assist, while Katrina Marten dished out four assists.
  • Hartwick held a 31-18 shots on goal edge and collected 33 ground balls compared to the Roos 17. 
  • The Hawks held a slim 15-14 edge in draw controls with Vaccarelli leading the way with a game-high 11. 
  • Hartwick capitalized going 4-for-11 on free-position shots, while Canton was 3-for-7.  
  • Scott made a career-high18 saves in net for the Roos in the loss. The 18 saves are the most by a Roos goalie since Nicole Piskorowski made 22 on February 26, 2020.
  • Maddi Morrison stopped six shots in the win for Hartwick.
