Twelve Players Score as Roos Cruise Past Cazenovia

Canton, NY – Twelve different players scored goals as the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team cruised past Cazenovia College 24-3 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams exchanged early goals before Canton ran off eight straight goals to lead 9-1. The Wildcats scored late in the first quarter as the hosts led 9-2 after one.
  • The Roos defense held Cazenovia scoreless in the second and third quarters while totaling 12 goals of their own (five second quarter, seven third quarter) to open a commanding 21-2 lead after 45 minutes of action.
  • Canton continued to receive impressive performances throughout its lineup in the fourth quarter outscoring the Wildcats 3-1 for the 24-3 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Michael Newcomb led all players with seven goals, while Austin Mesler finished with six points on a goal and five assists. Rory McCabe finished with two goals, two assists and seven ground balls and Alex Jacobs supplied three goals.
  • Kyle Fingar and Alec Gorman recorded two goals and an assist each, while Noel Abreu stuffed the stat sheet with a goal, two assists, 10 ground balls and went 16-for-21 at the X.
  • Charles Grandaw scored twice and Carter Pooler, Logan McCargar and Caeden Goodnough finished with a goal and assist each. Devin Guerriero scored his second career goal and Jake Erskine added an assist. Fingar posted seven ground balls and four caused turnovers and Jacobs and Erskine caused three turnovers each.
  • Marshall Withers led Cazenovia with two goals and an assist.
  • Hayden Todd earned his first collegiate win in net making nine saves and allowing just two goals in the first half. Sam Servati made two saves surrendering just one score in the second stanza.
  • Jeff Viviano took the loss for Cazenovia allowing 14 goals and making five saves in the first half. Sam Goldman made five saves and allowed 10 goals in the second half.
  • The Roos controlled shots on goal (34-14), ground balls (62-22) and faceoffs (25-6). Canton went 2-for-4 on extra man opportunities and 15-for-20 on clears, while Cazenovia was 9-for-24 on clears.



WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in NAC action on Saturday when they host Husson University at 1 p.m.
