Jacobs Scores Twice v. Bears

Canton, NY – Sophomore Alex Jacobs scored a pair of goals, but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team fell 19-5 to visiting SUNY Potsdam in a non-league game on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos dominated the X in the first quarter owning a 6-1 advantage in faceoffs, but the Bears took a 5-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes of play.
  • Potsdam controlled faceoffs 8-1 in the second quarter and that turned into a 7-1 edge on the scoreboard as they went into intermission leading 12-2.
  •  The visitors outscored Canton 7-3 after half for the 19-5 victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Jacobs paced the Roos with two goals and four ground balls, while Noel Abreu posted a goal, an assist, six ground balls and won 12 faceoffs. Austin Mesler chipped in a goal and assist with four ground balls, while Michael Newcomb also scored.
  • Peyton Walsh led a balanced Bears attack with four goals and two assists, while Owen Walsh tallied three goals and two assists. Drew Rose supplied three goals and an assist and Ryan Hughes and Noah Strader finished with two goals and an assist each.
  • Liam O'Neil played the first half to earn the win for the Bears making eight saves on 10 shots. Saka Thompson made six saves in 20 minutes of relief allowing a pair of goals, and Collin Dougherty played the final 10 minutes allowing a goal with a pair of saves.
  • Hayden Todd took the loss surrendering 18 goals and making 12 saves over nearly 49 minutes of action. Sam Servati played the final 11 plus minutes allowing one score.
  • The Bears had the upper hand in shots on goal (31-21), ground balls (47-30) and faceoffs (15-12). Potsdam was 3-for-6 on extra man opportunities, while the Roos were 0-for-2.
     
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos have a quick turnaround as they host Cazenovia in North Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
