Caron Scores Five in Non-Conference Tilt at Arcadia

Glenside, PA – Sophomore Maddy Caron scored five first-half goals but host Arcadia used a strong second half to earn a 15-13 win v. the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SUNY Canton controlled play in the opening quarter owning a 13-4 shots advantage as they took a 4-0 lead on the scoreboard after one. Four different players scored as Casey Pelton, Samantha Dayter, Caron and Morgan Montgomery all found the back of the net.
  • Arcadia responded tallying four of the first five goals in the second quarter to get within 5-4. From there Canton netted the next four goals with Dayter scoring on a free-position and Caron registering three consecutive goals.
  • Ava Reynolds recorded her first collegiate point assisting Caron's fourth goal and the sophomore from Marcellus, NY recorded her fifth goal with 23 seconds left in the half. Canton led 9-4 at intermission.  
  • Arcadia tallied six of the first seven goals of the third quarter to knot things up at 10 apiece with 2:27 left in the third. Dayter and Ashley Starkey exchanged goals as the teams went to the fourth tied at 11.
  • The Knights took a 14-11 lead midway through the quarter before Pelton got the Roos within two with just more than four minutes to play. Ashlyn Barton extended the lead back to three with 2:05 to play before Caroline Nappi cut the deficit back to two with 1:34 remaining.
  • The Roos won the ensuing draw but were unable to score the rest of the way as the hosts held on for the win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Caron led the Roos with five goals, an assist, seven draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Dayter tallied three goals, two assists, nine draws, five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Lindsey Wunder dished out a game-high four assists and Pelton added two goals and one assist.
  • Reynolds finished with her first collegiate points on a goal and assist. Emily Vogt picked up a team-high six ground balls, while Olivia Scott added five.
  • Starkey led the Knights with seven goals, Morganne Dee added three goals and one assist and Campbell Torrey had two goals and an assist.
  • Scott made seven saves in the loss for the Roos, while Emily Griffith recorded 11 saves in the win for Arcadia.


WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Saturday when they visit Kean University at 1 p.m.
