Dayter, Caron & Pelton Lead Roos in Late Loss at Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh, NY – Samantha Dayter, Maddy Caron and Casey Pelton combined for seven goals, but host Plattsburgh State scored four unanswered goals over the final nine minutes of the game to earn an 11-9 win on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals led 3-1 nine minutes into the game and held a 4-2 advantage with two minutes left in the opening quarter, but Samantha Dayter scored with less than three seconds left in the first to make it 4-3. Casey Pelton and Maddy Caron also scored first quarter goals for the Roos.
  • Canton scored the first two goals of the second quarter off the sticks of Morgan Montgomery and Dayter to take their first lead of the game at 5-4 with 5:07 left in the first half. Emma McLaughlin would score with the player advantage with less than two minutes left in the second quarter as the teams went to intermission tied at five apiece.
  • Pelton and Dayter recorded third quarter goals as the teams headed to the fourth knotted at seven apiece.
  • Caron and Caroline Nappi netted a pair of free-position goals in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to give the Roos a two-goal lead with less than 10 to play.
  • The Cardinals responded tallying three consecutive goals in less than a three-minute stretch and added a late insurance goal with 45 seconds left to seal the win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayter led the Roos with three goals, while Pelton and Caron had two each. Aayliah White finished with a pair of assists and Morgan Montgomery and Nappi scored on goal each. The score was the first collegiate goal for Nappi. Dayter finished with a game-best 10 draw controls.
  • Lindsay Guzzetta paced Plattsburgh with five goals, while Emma McLaughlin and Cynthia Barnosky supplied two goals and one assist each.
  • Olivia Scott made 13 saves in goal for the Roos, while Johanna Malone turned aside 12 shots for Plattsburgh. Scott picked up a game-high six ground balls for Canton.

The Roos are back in action on Thursday when they visit Arcadia University at 4 p.m.
