Martin, Sirota and Hooper Lead Roos Past Mustangs

Morrisville, NY – Senior Sam Martin and sophomore Zac Sirota each scored a goal and freshman Kelson Hooper earned his eighth victory of the season as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team earned a 2-1 victory at SUNY Morrisville Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, Martin snapped a wrister past Mustang goalie Garrett Boyonoski at 3:04 of the second period to give the Roos a 1-0 lead.  Martin's goal was assisted by senior Nic Herringer & sophomore Brady Morrison.
  • Morrisville's Cameron Clark tied the game at 11:28 of the second beating freshman Kelson Hooper on a screened shot.
  • A late second period penalty would result in a third period power play goal by sophomore Zac Sirota with assists going to sophomore Filip Jakobsson and freshman Scott Cremen.
  • The Roos held on from there to take the 2-1 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Sirota scored his team-leading ninth goal while Martin scored his sixth goal in seven games.
  • The Roos were 1-for-4 on the power play while Morrisville was 0-for-2.
  • Faceoffs were even at 27 each.
  • Hooper stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced (.973 save %) to improve to 8-3-0 on the season. 
WHAT'S NEXT?
SUNY Canton hosts Arcadia University for the final two games of the season.  Game one will be Friday February 10th at 7 p.m. followed by game two on Saturday at 4 p.m.
