Brunton Scores First Career Goal, Roos Balanced Attack Drops Purple Knights

South Burlington, VT – Sophomore Sam Brunton scored his first career goal and Nic Herringer dished out two assists as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team defeated Saint Michael's College 4-1 on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Brunton scored his goal at 4:42 of the second, tipping a shot from freshman Cory Liu into the net.  Sophomore Jack Seamans assisted on the play.
  • The Purple Knights evened the game just 16 seconds later on a goal by Kyle Lee.  Lee's goal was assisted by Hans Forselius and Gabriel Gagnon.
  • The Roos regained the lead when Brendan Morrow buried a rebound in front of the net past Saint Michael's goaltender Cole Manahan.  Seniors Herringer and Sebastien Paquette assisted on the goal.
  • Sophomore Evan Pringle gave the Roos a 3-1 lead, canning his fourth goal of the year on a sharp-angle shot off of Manahan.  Herringer picked up the assist.
  • Lucas Roy pushed Canton's lead to 4-1 on a beautiful wrap-around goal, beating Manahan to the short side of the net.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Morrow and Pringle are tied for second on the team with four goals each.
  • Both Canton and Saint Michael's were 0/2 on the power play.
  • The Roos had a slight edge in faceoffs 28-26.
  • Hooper finished the night with 11 saves in just over 30 minutes of play.  Hopkins finished with 10 saves in relief.  Manahan made 32 saves for the Purple Knights.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos travel for a pair of road games against Lake Forrest College in Illinois New Year's weekend on Saturday, December 30th and December 31st with both games beginning at 4:00 p.m.
