HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lake Forest opened the scoring at 6:02 of the first period when Tyler Nielsen took a cross-crease pass from Justin Ross and beat sophomore Nate Hopkins.
- Logan Kittleson put the Foresters up 2-0 less than a minute later on a low-angle shot that deflected past Hopkins. Kittleson's goal was assisted by Fabrizio Mazzarelli.
- Schoner stole the puck at the top of the circle and placed a wrist shot over the blocker of Forester goaltender Bobby McCloskey to get the Roos within one goal at 2-1 at 13:20 of the opening period.
- Connor Scahill extended the lead to 3-1 just over 30 seconds later, taking a cross-ice pass from Kittleson and beating Hopkins top shelf.
- Junior Colton Sipperley had a nifty give-and-go sequence with sophomore Reilly McKinnon, just under two minutes later, taking the return pass and depositing it past McCloskey.
- Schoner tied the game at three, taking a pass from junior Brendan Morrow and burying it for his second of the evening midway through the second period.
- A major penalty for the Roos, late in the period, resulted in a five-minute power play for the Foresters, and two late second period goals by Griffen Sanom and Nielsen to put Lake Forest up 5-3.
- Connor Tartaglione scored one in the third and Chase Freiermuth potted two more for the Foresters making the final 8-3.
