Trey Miller recorded 40 saves and his first career victory and freshman
Conor O'Brien notched his first career goal as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team beat Lake Forest on New Year's Eve 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jared Gerger got the hosts off to a 1-0 start, scoring his third of the year at 12:50 of the first period. His goal was assisted by Tyler Buonopane.
- O'Brien evened the game at one for the Roos just two minutes into the second period, burying a rebound past Forester netminder Alex Rohlf. Senior Lucas Roy earned the assist.
- Senior Nic Herringer gave Canton their first lead of the weekend when he collected a long clearing pass from junior Brendan Morrow and scored a short-handed goal to put the Roos up 2-1.
- Junior Colton Sipperley scored an insurance goal at 16:31, taking a long pass from sophomore Evan Pringle and beating Rohlf. Reilly McKinnon was credited with the secondary assist.
- With time ticking down and Rohlf pulled for the extra attacker, freshman Niko Schoner took a McKinnon pass from behind the net and sent the puck the length of the rink for the empty netter.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Schoner's goal gives him nine on the year, Herringer scored his third of the season.
- Morrow earned his team-leading seventh assist of the season, McKinnon grabbed his fifth and sixth.
- The Roos were 0/3 on the power play and a perfect 3/3 on the penalty kill.
- Faceoff were even for both teams at 36 each.
- Miller's 40 saves were a career high. Rohlf finished the night with 31 stops.
