HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got on the board first at 13:50 of the first period with the skater advantage. Scott Cremen played the puck from the right point to Evan Pringle above the right circle. Pringle hit Nic Herringer behind the Trine net as he played the puck into the slot where it bounced off a defensemen's skate past Thunder goaltender Shane Brancato.
  • Trine evened the score at one apiece at 16:18 of the opening period when Drew Welsch gathered the puck in the neutral zone skating into the zone as he slid the puck past Roos goaltender Trey Miller as Welsch was dragged down on a holding penalty.
  • The Thunder only got one shot off with the skater advantage but peppered Miller with five more shots over the final two minutes of the period as the teams skated to first intermission tied at one. Trine held an 18-9 shots advantage in the opening period.
  • Canton regained the lead at 5:44 of the middle period on a beautiful goal from Pringle. Herringer skated up the left wing and left the puck for Brendan Morrow to his right. He circled back playing a quick pass to Pringle in the high slot. He deked a pair of defensemen and the goalie before firing a shot inside the right post for the 2-1 lead.
  • Trine took control of the game with three goals in just under a three minute stretch at the end of the second period.
  • Chance McCardle tied things up at 2-2 at the 16:04 mark when he scored on a wrister from between the circles past the blocker of Miller. Welsch and Matteo Ybarra picked up assists on the play.
  • Just over a minute later Jackson Clark gave Trine their first lead of the game when he fired a shot in from the left point through traffic off an offensive zone faceoff win from Sam Antenucci.
  • Jack Cooper concluded the flurry of scoring for the Thunder when he redirected a Blake Tierney shot from the point as Ybarra picked up the second assist. Trine controlled shots 13-3 in the second period and took a 4-2 lead to second intermission.
  • The Roos answered back with two goals less than two minutes apart midway through the third period.
  • Adrian Franco skated into his offensive zone leaving a drop pass for Gino DeBlasiis as he faked the goaltender out of his net and buried his first goal of the season at the 9:27 mark.
  • Less than two minutes later Miller started the attack from behind goal as he cycled a pass around the boards for Reilly McKinnon as he found Morrow through the neutral zone as he wristed a shot past Brancato.
  • Welsch netted his second of the night with 1:39 left of a faceoff win by Ybarra just outside the Trine offensive zone.
  • With the puck in their offensive zone with 1:26 remaining Canton pulled Miller for the extra attacker. Seventeen seconds later Welsch completed the hat trick with an empty-netter to seal the win.
