Morrow Scores First of Season Against SUNY Potsdam

Canton, NY – Junior Brendan Morrow scored his first goal of the season, as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team dropped a home contest to SUNY Potsdam 4-1 on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Roos opened the scoring at 13:22 of the first period when sophomore Evan Pringle chipped a puck from his own zone to Morrow, who hit freshman Niko Schoner in stride at the blue line.  Schoner hit Morrow back with the give-and-go pass and Morrow danced around Bears goaltender John Werber and deposited the puck just over Werber's right pad and into the net.
  • Potsdam answered at 2:22 of the second when Jack McCandless picked of a Roo zone exit and deflected the puck off a Roo defender and past sophomore goaltender Nate Hopkins.
  • Jeremy Quesnel gave the Bears the lead at 5:17 of third, finding the puck in a scrum of players and poking it past a prone Hopkins.  Rocco Seery and Ryan Mahlmeister earned the assists.
  • Michael Campbell scored a power play goal at 13:02 of the third to extend Potsdam's lead to 3-1.  His goal was assisted by Mason Hoehn and Eli Doughart-Wood.
  • Max Klanow closed out the scoring collecting an empty-net goal with Hopkins on the bench for the extra attacker.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Bears out shot the Roos 34-31, including 13-9 in the third period.
  • SUNY Canton led the battle at the dot, winning 34 of the 62 faceoffs, led by Morrow's 12.
  • Seven different Roos blocked a shot on the evening.
  • Hopkins finished with 30 saves on the night while his counterpart Werber matched with 30 of his own.
