Canton, NY – SUNY Canton held a slim shots advantage in the game but was unable to solve Mustangs goaltender Ty Outen as the Roos dropped their season opener to visiting Stevenson University by a score of 5-0 on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mustangs got on the board first at 8:56 of the opening period when Jack Meloff's shot from the top of the right circle was saved by Kelson Hooper. The rebound ricocheted right to Rhett Evjen at the left dot as Hooper got a piece of the shot but it found the back of the net for the early lead. Zach Bannister was also credited with an assist on the play.
- The Roos held a slim 13-11 shots on goal advantage in the opening period but trailed 1-0 at first intermission.
- The visitors doubled their lead at 7:38 of the middle period with the Roos looking to clear their defensive zone. Eric Olson picked up the turnover and found Graeme McCrory who deked Hooper putting home his first goal of the season.
- The Mustangs added a third goal seven minutes later off the stick off a redirect in the slot from Liam McCanney. John Musella and Aidan McDowell picked up helpers on the play.
- Stevenson added a power play marker with 1:04 left in the second when Evjen potted a rebound off a saved shot from the left point by McDowell. Malcolm Palmer also picked up an assist on the play.
- Canton held a 15-9 shots on goal advantage in the second period but trailed 4-0 after 40 minutes of play.
- The Mustangs tacked on their second power play goal of the game when Bannister scored at 10:15 of the third period for the 5-0 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Roos held a slim 34-33 shots advantage, while Stevenson owned a 30-26 face offs edge.
- Adrian Franco went 9-for-11 on draws, while Brendan Morrow was 4-for-6. Niko Schoner (7) and Gino Deblasiis (5) combined for 12 Canton shots.
- Evjen led the Mustangs with two goals, while McDowell, Musella and Palmer supplied two assists each.
- Outen recorded a 34 save shutout for the Mustangs, while Hooper made 28 saves for the Roos.
- Canton was 0-for-5 with the skater advantage, while Stevenson was 2-for-5.
