Geneseo, NY – The SUNY Canton men's hockey team put together a complete performance at both ends of the ice taking a 2-1 win at No. 6 nationally-ranked SUNY Geneseo. The Roos were led by sophomore
Filip Jakobsson with a goal and assist and freshman
Kelson Hooper who made 26 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- SUNY Canton opened the scoring at 12:40 of the first period when freshman Evan Pringle blasted home a feed from Jakobsson to put the Roos on top 1-0. Pringle's goal was on the power play and was also assisted by sophomore Brady Morrison.
- In the second period, the Roos found themselves killing penalties for much of the period, including a five-minute major. Hooper made three big saves and the penalty killers blocked three shots during to help maintain the Roo's lead.
- Geneseo's Peter Morgan was finally able to solve Hooper at 1:32 of the third period tipping a shot from the point past the goalie and knotting the game at one all.
- SUNY Canton answered back at 10:07 of the third when freshman Carson Cox ripped a high shot from the blue line that Knight's goaltender Matt Petezian couldn't handle cleanly. As the rebound fell to the crease Jakobsson was there to deposit the game winning goal into the back of the net. Sophomore Zac Sirota also earned an assist on the play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Hooper was solid all night and finished with 26 saves for his third win of the season. Petezian finished with 14 saves for the Knights.
- Pringle's goal was his team-leading seventh of the season.
- Brendan McCormick led the Roos with three blocked shots.
- SUNY Canton was 1-for-3 on the power play, while Geneseo was 0-for-5.
- The win was the first ever for the Roos v. Geneseo and the second highest ranked opponent knocked off by the men's hockey program. SUNY Canton beat #3 Adrian back on 12/30/2018.

SUNY Canton will face SUNY Potsdam in a north country battle at Massena Arena on January 11, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.
