Men’s Hockey Drops Game to #6 Ranked Geneseo

Canton, NY – Freshman goaltender Nate Hopkins made 27 saves, including 10 in the third period, but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team dropped a 7-0 decision to #6 ranked SUNY Geneseo on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Geneseo's high-powered offense jumped on the scoreboard early when Peter Morgan scored at 3:50 of the first period.  The Roos were able to keep the Knights off the score sheet until the waning moments the first, when Domenic Garozzo put two goals away in less than 30 seconds to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • Geneseo opened the second period with a Greg Koutsomitis goal and followed that with two more from Mitch Machlitt, including one on the power play.  Garozzo scored his second of the night at 14:55 of the second to put Geneseo ahead 7-0.
  • The Roos held the Knights scoreless in the third behind the strong performance of freshman Nate Hopkins who finished with 10 saves in the period.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Sophomore Brendan Morrow took five shots for the Roos and was 11-6 at the faceoff dot.
  • Senior Brendan McCormack had two blocked shots and was 6-6 on faceoffs.
  • Hopkins made 27 saves for the Roos and while Sophomore Adam Harris earned the shutout and finished with 19 saves for the Knights.
