Chambers-Phillips Nets Career-High 24 in Last Second Loss v. Poly

Canton, NY – Juztin Chambers-Phillips posted a career-high 24 points but the SUNY Canton men's basketball team fell to visiting SUNY Poly late by a score of 83-79 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos led by as many as 11 (28-17) and held a 32-22 advantage with 8:50 to play in the opening half.
  • Chambers-Phillips scored 15 of the team's first 32 points as he started the game 2-for-2 from three, 3-for-3 from the field and 7-for-7 from the line.
  • The Wildcats responded with a 14-2 run to open up a 36-34 lead with less than five to play in the half. In a back-and-forth first half the Roos took a 48-46 lead into intermission.
  • Neither team led by more than eight in the second half as the Roos used a 5-0 run to cut the Poly lead to just three with 3:26 remaining. The Wildcats responded with a three and Canton was unable to get closer than three the rest of the way.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Chambers-Phillips led the way with a game-high 24 points on an extremely efficient 5-for-9 from the field and 3-for-5 mark from three. He also knocked down all 11 of his free throws and dished out a team-high five assists. Quran DuBois supplied 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three blocks and three steals. DeMerrill Levy (11) and Terrence Fields (10) also reached double figures, while Fadil Atcha-Dedji ripped down a game-high 12 boards.
  • Cheickne Toure led Poly with 20 points, while Jesse O'Dell posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. The duo combined for 10 of the Wildcats 16 assists. Dylan Ernst (15) and Mitch Kernizan (11) also reached double figures in scoring.
  • The Wildcats shot 49% from the field compared to 39% for the Roos. Canton was 13-for-14 from the line, while Poly was 15-for-25. Rebounds and turnovers were even at 40 and 11 each, respectively.

The men's basketball team is back in action next Saturday when they host NVU-Johnson at 3 p.m. on Senior Day.
