Canton, NY – Head Coach
Wilson Matos and the SUNY Canton baseball team have announced their 2023 schedule, which marks the team's fourth season in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC).
Â
The Roos schedule currently features 39 total contests with nine home games and 15 conference contests. SUNY Canton will play a pair of doubleheaders plus a single game (5 total) against each of the other three schools in the NAC West. The team opens the season on February 25th when it travels south to the nation's capital where it will play Rochester Institute of Technology and host Gallaudet University before squaring off with Washington College the following morning.
Â
After a three-game set (3/4-5) at SUNY Oneonta, the Roos will head south once again, this time to sunny Florida, to play seven games in the Russ Matt Tournament during their spring break trip (3/12-18).
Â
Â
The team returns to New York for road doubleheaders at Utica (3/22) and Hamilton (3/23). The Roos then make a trip to Maine to play fellow conference foe Husson University in a pair of doubleheaders (4/1-2). The games are non-league contests as all conference games are split into divisions (NAC West and NAC East) in baseball.
Â
Canton opens the home and conference portion of its schedule with a three-game set v. Cazenovia (4/7-8) in Canton. The Roos then play a road doubleheader v. the Wildcats on April 11th. The team then visits SUNY Poly for three NAC games the following weekend (4/14-15) before hosting Poly for a midweek doubleheader (4/18) to complete the season series against the Wildcats.
Â
Canton opens its NAC series against SUNY Cobleskill at home for three games (4/21-22) before a midweek non-conference game at Plattsburgh State (4/26). The Roos complete their NAC series with a doubleheader at Cobleskill (4/29) before hosting the Cardinals in a non-conference single game on Sunday (4/30). Canton completes its regular season crosstown at St. Lawrence (5/2).
Â
The NAC Championship tournament is scheduled for Sunday (5/7) through Tuesday (5/9). It will be hosted by the top seed in the NAC East with the top two seeds from each division (West/East) qualifying for the tournament. The Roos made their first trip to the NAC Tournament last season after posting a 7-8 league record.
