Herringer and Headland Score but Roos Unable to Overcome Early Deficit at Brockport

Brockport, NY – Nic Herringer and Matthew Headland found the back of the net, but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team was unable to overcome a six-goal deficit in a 6-2 loss at Brockport on Saturday evening. The teams split the weekend series after the Roos won 3-2 in OT in Canton on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts opened the scoring 4:27 into the opening period off the stick of Jake Mendeszoon. Andrew Harley and Connor Galloway set up the score. Canton outshot Brockport 13-10 in the first period, but the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead to first intermission.
  • Scott Ramaekers, Matt Anastasio and Chris Aarons scored second period goals for Brockport with Ramaekers coming short handed as the hosts took a 4-0 lead into second intermission.
  • After three assists over the first two periods Galloway scored shorthanded 1:05 into the third period. Manny Sanchez found the back of the net just 36 seconds later as Brockport led 6-0 less than two minutes into the third period.
  • Herringer got the Roos on the board at 5:39 of the third period. Jarrod Croswell started with the puck behind his own net finding Brendan McCormack through the neutral zone. He left the puck for Herringer at the far boards who beat Golden Eagle net minder Nolan Egbert.
  • Canton tacked on another score at 12:33 of the period when Brendan Morrow won a draw at the left circle back to Headland who one-timed a shot top shelf in the right corner.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Brockport held a slim 29-27 shots advantage. The Roos held an edge in draws, 36-32.
  • Kelson Hooper made 16 saves allowing six goals over the first 41:41. Nate Hopkins turned aside seven shots over the final 18:19 without allowing a score. Egbert turned aside 25 shots for the hosts.
  • The Canton penalty kill went 4-for-4, while Brockport's PK was 5-for-5.

The men's hockey team returns to the ice on Friday when they host Anna Maria College at 7 p.m.
