Cremen, Herringer Help Roos Top Blue Devils

Fredonia, NY – Freshman Scott Cremen and senior Nic Herringer each scored a goal and two assists to help lead the SUNY Canton men's hockey team to a 5-1 win over Fredonia State on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Ryan Bailey scored at 3:53 of the first period to give Fredonia an early 1-0 lead.
  • That lead would be short-lived as senior Brendan McCormack would respond at 14:13 of the first, scoring a power play goal, evening the score at 1-1.  McCormack's goal was assisted by both Herringer and Cremen.
  • Senior Matthew Headland gave the Roos their first lead of the evening at 2:59 of the second period, getting assists from sophomore Brendan Morrow and freshman Evan Pringle.
  • Cremen's power play goal at 11:38 of the second doubled SUNY Canton's lead 3-1.  His goal was assisted by Headland and Herringer.
  • Herringer got on the board just 13 seconds into the third period, upping the lead to 4-1.  Senior Matt Passaretti and Cremen assisted on the play.
  • Fredonia pulled goaltender Logan Dyck for an extra attacker with just over three minutes to play but senior Sam Martin picked off a Blue Devil pass and promptly deposited into the open net to close out the scoring.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Cremen's goal was the first of his career.  A mid-semester transfer, Cremen has four points in four games.
  • Herringer's three points puts him into second, tied with teammate Evan Pringle at 15 points each.  Pringle earned one assist in the game.
  • Morrow, who leads all Roos with 16 points this season, gathered an assist as well.
  • Freshman Kelson Hooper finished the night with 35 saves and is 3-0 since the New Year, giving up just four goals in three games and making 98 saves.
  • SUNY Canton was spotless on special teams with the power play going 2/2 and penalty kill perfect in five attempts against.
  • Dyck made 33 saves for the Blue Devils.

SUNY Canton will face Fredonia State on the road again Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
